APPRENTICE MARINE FINISHER/PAINTER (Southport and Damariscotta): Hodgdon is searching for an Apprentice Finisher to assist and learn the trade of Marine finishing.

A Marine Finisher is responsible for surface preparations and various coatings of the vessel, including fairing, sanding, painting, spraying and other finishing procedures.  Finishing mostly involves epoxy primers, linear polyurethane topcoats, and other marine finish products.  Most of the Apprentice focus will be on surface preparation for high end paint jobs.

The chosen candidate will learn proper procedures to fair and prep surfaces for priming and final topcoat application including sanding, cleaning, and masking, and working up towards topcoat application.

The applicant must have good communication skills and be a team player.  Applicant must have a good eye for surface preparation detail have a strong desire to learn and work.

A Marine Finisher must also possess basic mathematic skills, must be able to read and understand paint mixing formulas, have flexibility to work in standing, squatting or kneeling position, at times work in small spaces, as well as reaching overhead with some twisting and bending, while performing the tasks described above.  Finisher must not have a fear of heights and must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs.

Hodgdon offers competitive wages, as well as benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, 401K and more.  Our current schedule provides for a three-day weekend by working four ten-hour days, allowing additional time to enjoy family and friends and the many beautiful places in the State of Maine.  Overtime is necessary at times to meet delivery schedules.

MARINE FINISHER/PAINTER (Southport and Damariscotta): A Marine Finisher is responsible for all surface preparations and coating of the vessel, may include fairing, sanding, painting, spraying and other finishing procedure.  Finishing may involve epoxy, linear polyurethanes and other marine finish products. A Finisher may also assist with preparing estimates, including interacting with Service Managers and/or Customers.

Five years experience in the marine finishing industry is preferred but may be substituted for experience in auto body shop finishing. The applicant must be familiar with brush and spray applications, have high quality standards and pay attention to detail. The applicant must have a keen understanding of the safety procedures, have good communication skills and be a team player.

A Marine Finisher must also possess basic mathematic skills, must be able to read and understand paint mixing formulas, have flexibility to work in standing, squatting or kneeling position, work in small confined spaces, as well as reaching overhead with some twisting and bending, while performing the tasks described above. Finisher must not have a fear of heights and must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs.

COMPOSITE TECHNICIAN: Hodgdon Yachts is searching for an experienced composite technician with boat construction knowledge and experience to join our team at our Damariscotta location building world class Tenders. Technicians are responsible for building composite components using appropriate layup techniques and have working knowledge of infusion techniques.

Duties include, material lay-up and installation, core fitting and placement, basic placement knowledge of vacuum and feed lines. Trimming and fitting completed composite components, grinding and sanding. Must be able to work with all shop tools, equipment and chemicals associated with composite construction. May be required to travel both domestically and internationally to perform Tender service and maintenance. Experience includes working with boat building, composites as well as basic math, carpentry and staging skills.​

​PROJECT MANAGER: Responsible for Project Management of tender construction with a commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget ensuring the work performed meets the customer’s expectations as well as Hodgdon standards. The Project Manager, within the constraints of the contract, will establish the production timeline and will coordinate necessary labor, materials, tools and equipment with the Production Manager and the Manager of Design and Engineering.

Requirements: ​

Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years’ experience (or a combination of education and experience) with a concentration in Operations Management preferable in yacht manufacturing or the construction environment

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to forge strong relationships with customers, management and employees

Exceptional project management skills including job scheduling, resource estimation and cost management

Strong ability to communicate in writing using appropriate language and good business grammar

Strong verbal, communication, and listening skills

Strong financial skills including budgeting and cost analysis

Ability to read blue prints and interpret or prepare specification sheets

Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, MS Project and database access. AutoCAD and Rhino helpful

Must be able to meet the requirements of the schedule which may include overtime and scheduling meetings outside of the Project Managers normal schedule.

MARINE MECHANIC: Hodgdon Yacht Services on Southport is looking for an individual to expand our growing mechanics team. This position includes repair and service on all types of marine engines, both gasoline and diesel, with an emphasis on diesel inboard and generator applications. Stern drive and outboard experience are also a plus.

Duties include commissioning/decommissioning, troubleshooting and repair of water systems, engines, refrigeration systems, heating/cooling systems, AC and DC electrical systems and heads. Provide estimates for system upgrades and repairs typical to marine systems. Ability to research in catalogs, on-line, through dealer portals, service/parts manuals and computer sources is preferred.

Hodgdon offers a competitive wage, in proportion with experience. All employees working 25 or more hours a week are eligible for our generous benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 401K, paid time off and holidays. Our current work schedule is four ten-hour days, allowing for three-day weekends.
